Description:
The objective of the Namibia summer program is to support the development of integrated computer education in schools. This involves helping schools to use computers as relevant tools in the teaching and learning process. WorldTeach has formed a partnership with the National Institute for Educational Development (NIED), the research and professional development arm of the Namibian Ministry of Basic Education. NIED works closely with SchoolNet, a local non-profit with the mission of bringing the Internet to Namibian schools. While SchoolNet secures computer equipment and wires schools to make them Internet-ready, NIED is responsible for determining how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can best be taught within the school curriculum.

Because WorldTeach receives no government or significant outside funding, we must ask volunteers themselves to cover most of the expenses associated with their placement, travel, training and support. Your fee enables us to provide a variety of important services, not the least of which is finding someone like you who is qualified and willing to serve as a teacher in an under-resourced school in a developing country. Aside from that one all-important service to our partner countries, however, WorldTeach services are primarily designed to support you, the volunteer. Whether it is pre-departure preparation, in-training and support, or help in the case of an emergency, all of these services are provided in an effort to enhance your safety and security while enabling you to become the most effective teacher that you can be.
