Summer Volunteer Teacher in Ecuador
  Ecuador
  • Quito:
  • Quito
  • All Other Regions of Ecuador:
  • Puerto Lopez,  Guaranda

Length of Position: 2 months
Dates: June-August

Description: The Ecuador Summer Program affords volunteers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth, while also allowing an up-close look at development work. Ecuador Summer volunteers teach English in a wide variety of settings including community centers, schools, and institutions that have invited WorldTeach volunteers. Volunteers are primarily placed in communities that would not otherwise be able to have a native speaker to teach English. This means that volunteers are often placed in rural areas but placements in larger, more urban communities are usually also available.

Summer program volunteers contribute to Ecuador by teaching English, getting involved in other community projects, and by furthering their own knowledge of foreign lands for future endeavors abroad. The program emphasizes experiential-learning and is an ideal first step to those interested in international development work and/or education.

The reality is that the countries that most need educators cannot afford to cover all of the costs associated with training, travel, insurance, and other expenses related to placing a teacher overseas. Because WorldTeach receives no income from government grants or an endowment, we ask each volunteer to contribute or fundraise the cost of their placement and training in these countries, while the host community provides housing and a small stipend to support you during your service. By requesting that volunteers help fund their service overseas, WorldTeach is able to provide volunteer educators to countries that would not otherwise be able to afford qualified teachers. All WorldTeach volunteers are provided with a fundraising guide and access to alumni with fundraising experience to help them raise money to meet these costs. Over 70% of WorldTeach volunteers end up fundraising at least some portion of their program cost. Program cost includes: pre-departure information and preparation, round-trip international airfare, one week in-country orientation, health insurance, transportation to your site, meals and housing during orientation and teaching service, and 24-hour field support.
