Description:
World Endeavors' Community Development Volunteer Program in Ecuador offers its participants a truly unique way to experience Ecuador. By living and working side-by-side with local residents volunteers have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community while experiencing a total cultural immersion. Volunteers will assist local communities, in both rural and urban Ecuador, with projects that focus on community development. Projects could include building construction, park and trail construction, or community education, all of which support sustainable eco-tourism for local communities. One project in particular focuses on improving the living conditions for children of impoverished families.
Highlights:
Upon arrival in Ecuador, volunteers receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the city and the surrounding area, the Ecuadorian culture, and the volunteer program. All volunteer placements of one month or longer include 2 weeks of Spanish language classes. Class sizes are typically very small giving students a personalized learning experience.
Participants stay with local Ecuadorian families in shared and single room accommodations or in volunteer housing. Accommodations are safe, clean, modest, and comfortable and within easy reach of public transportation.
In their free-time, volunteers can spend time in downtown Guayaquil, visit the waterfront area, visit the one of the many museums of Guayaquil, check their e-mail at the Internet Cafe, or explore nearby towns along the Pacific coast.
